Some buyers want the choice between infrared and steam, and the Kaskinen hybrid is built for them. Others already know what they want: the full-intensity traditional sauna experience, uncompromised, in a structure that is large enough to be the centerpiece of an outdoor wellness space rather than an accessory to it. The Kaarina is built for those buyers. It is the traditional-only companion to the Kaskinen hybrid in Golden Designs' Barn Series -- the same 6-person barn silhouette, the same all-weather exterior and Canadian Red Cedar interior, the same 88-inch ceiling height and 1,400-pound presence, but with a single Harvia "WALL" 8kW stove as the sole heat source. No infrared panels, no mode switching, no complexity. Just the stove, the stones, and the steam.

 

The Kaarina is built as a custom production unit with limited quantity available. The exterior is all-weather composite construction engineered to handle outdoor exposure year-round. The interior is fully lined in natural Canadian Red Cedar -- walls, ceiling, benches, and backrest -- left in its natural state without stain or finish, as the interior must remain natural. Red cedar's aromatic quality fills the cabin immediately when the stove fires up, and its natural oils give the interior its distinctive warm tone and the heat absorption characteristics that define a proper traditional sauna. The difference between a cedar-lined sauna and one built from hemlock or a neutral species is something you notice from the moment you step inside, and the Kaarina does not make any concessions on that front.

 

The Harvia "WALL" 8kW stove wall-mounts inside the cabin per the assembly instructions, with power running through the dedicated vent hole in the wall panel that must be closed before the heater is mounted -- the vent cannot be opened once the heater is in place. That installation step requires a certified electrician and the dedicated 240V/40AMP hardwired circuit that powers the stove. The lighting and audio system runs on a completely separate circuit: a 120V/15AMP outlet powers the Light/BT control panel, which manages the interior galaxy star ceiling color therapy lighting, the bench accent lighting, the FM radio, and Bluetooth audio through the built-in performance speakers. These are independent systems -- the lights and music work regardless of which heat mode is active, and neither circuit's operation affects the other.

 

Inside, the bench system uses upper and lower bench supports specific to the 6-person format, with benches installed on top and the blue antenna wire for the control panel uncoiled and extended during the bench installation step. The bronze privacy tempered glass door -- a distinction from the Kaskinen's clear glass -- provides privacy from outside view while still letting some ambient light into the space. The stove guard wood housing assembles around the Harvia stove to protect occupants from the heater surface. Sessions run between 170 and 185 degrees Fahrenheit for ideal traditional heat, with the ability to push to 190 degrees for a more intense experience.

 

Assembly requires four adults, a battery-operated Phillips screwdriver, rubber mallet, claw hammer, leveler, and two ladders. The roof installs in two sections with internal wire routing for the ceiling lighting connections, tile sections removed during installation and replaced after the roof halves are joined and the stainless steel flange is installed. Wall panels connect via guide and guide insert brackets that pull the panels tighter together as they slide down -- do not force them.

INSTALLATION NOTE: The location must be dry, level, and away from any water source. Four adults are required for assembly. The surface must be capable of supporting the assembled weight plus occupants, well in excess of 1,000 lbs. Approved base types include concrete slab, concrete pavers, gravel, cinder blocks, and solid wood deck. For the Harvia WALL stove, the electrician must run the power line through the vent hole in the wall panel and close the vent before mounting the heater -- the vent cannot be opened once the heater is installed. The roof installs in two sections; ceiling light wire connections must be made during installation before tile sections are replaced and the stainless steel flange is installed. The blue antenna wire at the circuit connection junction box must be uncoiled and extended before the upper bench support is installed. All electrical connections must be made by a certified licensed electrician using copper wire rated at 90 degrees Celsius minimum; aluminum wiring is not permitted. Do not use the sauna during electrical storms. For every four hours of use, shut the sauna down for one hour to cool down.
