Description

The Vorarlberg is what a traditional sauna looks like when the design starts from the outside in -- when the goal is an outdoor cabin that belongs in the backyard as a permanent structure, not a box you work around or hide under a cover. With a peaked gable roof finished in asphalt shingles, a natural reforested Canadian Hemlock exterior with a waterproof clear stain, and a full-height front wall with a bronze privacy tempered glass door flanked by fixed glass stationary panels, the Vorarlberg presents the way a sauna should -- confident, finished, and built to stay. It is the traditional steam sauna format with no infrared compromise and no hybrid complexity, just a Harvia "WALL" 8kW stove and the kind of cabin that makes the heat better because the space feels right.

 

The structure arrives as a pre-cut, pre-finished panel kit that assembles with a battery-operated screwdriver, rubber mallet, and two ladders. Three adults are recommended -- not because the system is technically difficult, but because the wall panel installation involves lifting and holding the rear, side, and front wall panels into position while they are buckle-clamped together. The panel system itself is engineered for clean, repeatable alignment: each panel slides onto the floor panel and locks to the adjacent walls via integrated buckles, eliminating the need for extensive fastener placement during the critical structural steps. The exterior roof panels -- each carrying the asphalt shingle finish -- install over triangular support frames attached to the front and rear wall panels, with a ridge tile piece completing the peak. The result is a fully weather-sealed gable roof that sheds rain and snow without requiring a separate rain cover over the sauna during normal use.

 

Inside, the Vorarlberg is a purpose-built traditional sauna room for five people. The bench system includes multiple bench supports, two full benches, a backrest positioned approximately 9 inches above the bench surface, and entry steps -- all in natural Canadian Hemlock interior finish that runs throughout the walls, ceiling, and floor. The Harvia WALL stove mounts to the interior wall per the assembly instructions, with the power line routed through the dedicated vent hole in the wall panel before heater installation; the vent cannot be opened once the heater is in place. The stove guard -- a three-sided wood housing installed around the heater -- protects occupants from the heater surface and is included in the kit. Sessions run between 170 and 185 degrees Fahrenheit for ideal traditional heat, with the ability to push to 190 degrees for a more intense experience.

 

The interior control panel runs on touch key technology and manages roof accent lighting, interior chromotherapy color lighting with a red light therapy feature, FM radio, and Bluetooth audio through the built-in performance speakers -- all independent of the stove, which runs on its own dedicated 240V/40AMP hardwired circuit. The lighting and audio systems run on a separate 120V/15AMP outlet. A sandglass, wooden bucket, and ladle scoop ship in the kit for an authentic traditional session from the first use.

INSTALLATION NOTE: Location must be dry, level, and away from any water source. The sauna surface must support the assembled weight plus occupants, which can exceed 1,000 lbs. Approved base types include concrete slab, concrete pavers, gravel, cinder blocks, and solid wood deck. Three adults are required for installation. For the Harvia WALL stove, the electrician must run the power line through the dedicated vent hole in the wall panel and close the vent before mounting the heater -- the vent cannot be opened once the heater is installed. All electrical connections must be made by a certified licensed electrician using copper wire rated at 90 degrees Celsius minimum; aluminum wiring is not permitted. The exterior clear waterproof stain must be reapplied annually to prevent the hemlock from graying due to UV exposure. Do not use the sauna during electrical storms.
