Description

The Avera is Dekko's original rectangular fire pit -- the model that defined the line and still sets the standard for what a concrete fire pit should be. It is oblong, low-profile, and deliberately minimal in its form: crisp indented lines running the length of the vessel, a profile that reads as furniture as much as fire feature, and dimensions that let it drop into the center of a seating arrangement and function as the table it replaces. Available in 48-inch and 60-inch lengths, the Avera is sized to anchor spaces of different scales -- the 48-inch for tighter patios, balconies, rooftop terraces, and deck installations where weight is a consideration; the 60-inch for larger outdoor living areas where the fire element needs to carry more visual weight across a wider seating group.

 

Both models are handmade in North America from Dekko's proprietary ultra-light, fiber-reinforced concrete formula. This is not a standard concrete mix with a decorative finish applied over it. The color is integral -- cast through the full thickness of the shell -- which means it cannot chip, peel, or patina off the surface over time. The 48-inch model weighs 145 pounds; the 60-inch weighs 175 pounds. Either is less than half the weight of a traditional concrete fire pit of comparable dimensions, which is the practical reason the Avera can go on a wood deck, a rooftop terrace, or any elevated surface where load capacity matters. Hairline cracks may develop over time as the concrete responds to heat cycles and weather. Dekko states this is a characteristic of the material and does not affect the structural integrity or service life of the vessel. Since each unit is handmade, texture and color vary between pieces; Dekko recommends requesting physical finish samples before selecting a color.

 

The burner is the HPC Torpedo Penta -- stainless steel, patented nozzle design, CSA/UL certified, pre-installed inside the concrete shell before the unit ships. Two ignition configurations are available across both sizes. The match-lit configuration uses a chrome key valve with adjustable flame height, requires no electricity, and outputs 65,000 BTU/hr on either model. The electronic ignition configuration replaces the key valve with an on/off electronic ignition system and included remote, and scales up the output: 115,000 BTU/hr on the 48-inch, 150,000 BTU/hr on the 60-inch. Electronic ignition units include a 66-inch power cord and require a 120VAC or 24VAC GFCI-protected outdoor receptacle, which is not included. Both configurations are available in natural gas and liquid propane, and the LP/NG convertible burner ships pre-configured for the fuel type you order. Note that LP tanks do not fit inside the vessel; liquid propane installations require an external tank with a supply line run to the unit. A matching propane tank cover is available separately.

 

Six concrete colors are available -- Natural, Limestone, Clay, Ash, Sandstone, and Charcoal -- and each unit ships with your choice of one decorative fire media: Ivory Beachstone, Slate Beachstone, or Black Lava Rock. When placing the media, lava rock goes down first directly over the burner, with decorative stone layered on top. Do not cover the burner orifices. On the first use, burn for one to two hours while keeping a safe distance from the unit; stones may pop or crack during initial heat exposure.

 

All gas connections and gas line work must be performed by a certified gas technician. Electronic ignition wiring must be handled by a licensed electrician. Minimum overhead clearance is 84 inches above the burner to any solid structure. Minimum side clearance is 36 inches on each side. The Avera can be positioned with combustible or solid structures on no more than two sides; noncombustible materials require at least 12 inches of clearance. Wood and composite deck installations require the appropriate deck insulation kit (sold separately by size) along with a concrete pad at least 1 inch thick.

 

The Avera ships custom made to order in 2 to 4 weeks via curbside freight. A 10-day quick ship option is available on select configurations -- confirm availability at time of order. Inspect the unit before the freight driver leaves.

INSTALLATION NOTE: All gas connections must be made by a certified gas technician. Electronic ignition wiring must be handled by a licensed electrician. No more than two sides may face combustible or solid structures; noncombustible materials require a minimum 12 inches of clearance. Do not cover burner orifices. Discard stones with visible hairline cracks. Ignition Types

Two ignition configurations are available for the Avera in both the 48-inch and 60-inch sizes, in natural gas or liquid propane.

The match-lit configuration (MLFPK) operates without electricity. A chrome key valve controls the gas flow, and the flame is lit manually with a match or lighter at the burner. Flame height is adjustable via the key valve. Output is 65,000 BTU/hr on both the 48-inch and 60-inch models. This is the simplest installation -- no electrical work, no receptacle, and no home automation integration required. Because it requires no power source, the match-lit configuration is well suited to installations where running conduit to the fire pit location is not practical or desired.

The electronic ignition configuration (EI) replaces the key valve with an electronic ignition system and operates from an included on/off remote. The burner lights and extinguishes at the press of a button. Output scales with the burner size: 115,000 BTU/hr on the 48-inch and 150,000 BTU/hr on the 60-inch. Two electrical supply options are available: 120VAC and 24VAC. The 120VAC version requires a standard 120V grounded outdoor receptacle with GFCI protection installed within reach of the 66-inch power cord. The 24VAC version requires a 24V GFCI-protected outlet and is the configuration used for integration with home automation systems, wall timers, and pool or spa controllers -- connections that must be made by a licensed electrician. Electronic ignition models require a fixed piping gas supply and are not compatible with portable liquid propane tanks.
