Description

Most outdoor saunas make a compromise somewhere -- between design and function, between size and character, between looking like a wellness retreat and looking like a shed. The Leisurecraft CT Luna Sauna does not make that compromise. It is one of the most recognizable outdoor sauna designs in North America, and the reason is immediately obvious: the Luna is a cube with softened corners, a full-width bronze-tinted glass window beside a cedar-framed glass door, and a smooth bevel-sided exterior that reads as deliberately modern without abandoning the warmth of natural wood. Set it in a backyard or at a cottage, and it looks like it was designed for that space specifically.

 

The structure is built entirely from Eastern White Cedar -- handcrafted by Leisurecraft in Melancthon, Ontario from sustainably sourced wood cut at certified Canadian mills. Eastern White Cedar is the right species for an outdoor sauna: it is naturally rot-resistant and insect-resistant, it carries the tight knots and lighter tone that give the Luna its distinctive finish, and its fiber spacing gives it the heat retention characteristics that make cedar the benchmark material for sauna construction worldwide. The exterior is clad in white cedar bevel siding. The walls, floor, and benches are all cedar throughout. There are no composite panels, no vinyl trim pieces, and no synthetic materials inside the heat zone.

 

The Luna's rounded corners are more than an aesthetic choice. They are part of the structural kit -- each corner transition is engineered into the stave assembly rather than applied as a trim detail -- and they create a spacious interior feel that the exterior footprint does not suggest. The 7 by 7 footprint opens into an 80 1/4 inch square interior with nearly 80 inches of headroom, accommodating two-tier benches on the back wall with pre-assembled bench panels that span the full interior width. Each bench tier is 22 1/2 inches deep and wide enough to lie down fully outstretched -- a capability that is not a given in this footprint class. The upper tier sits at 33 1/2 inches from the floor; the lower at 16 1/2 inches. Both tiers are surfaced with the same Eastern White Cedar as the rest of the interior.

 

The front wall features a large double-pane 3mm tempered glass window -- 26 1/2 inches wide by 42 1/4 inches tall -- beside a cedar-framed door with 5mm bronze tempered glass, pre-hung and ready to install. The bronze tinting allows natural light in while obscuring the view from outside, giving the interior both openness and privacy. Cedar door handles inside and out, a single towel hook, and a complete vent kit with stainless steel grilles and cedar vent cover are all included in the kit. The roof is an EPDM rubber membrane system -- not steel shingles -- with a slight slope to prevent water pooling and cedar trim pieces for a finished edge. It is watertight, durable, and appropriate for year-round outdoor exposure.

 

The CTC22LU is configured for electric heat. A 6kW heater is required -- available from Leisurecraft's lineup of heater options including the Harvia KIP, HUUM Drop, HUUM Hive, and Homecraft Revive -- and is ordered separately or as a bundle at time of purchase. The sauna reaches operating temperature in approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on ambient conditions and heater selection. Electrical requirements are 240V, 30 to 50 amp depending on the heater chosen; all final electrical connections must be made by a certified electrician.
