Description

The barrel sauna format earns its place through performance, not aesthetics -- though a well-built Eastern White Cedar barrel sauna in a backyard tends to look better than anything else you could put there. The Leisurecraft CT Serenity Barrel Sauna is handcrafted in Canada from Premium Grade A Eastern White Cedar, the same material that defines the Canadian Timber Collection across every model in the lineup, and it uses the barrel format for exactly the reason the barrel format exists: the curved interior concentrates heat where people sit, eliminates the dead air that accumulates in the corners of flat-wall rooms, and allows a smaller interior volume to reach temperature efficiently and hold it longer. The Serenity is the mid-size barrel in the Canadian Timber Collection, positioned between the 4-person Harmony and the larger Tranquility, seating up to five people in a 222 cubic foot interior that is sized right for households that want room without the footprint of a cabin sauna.

 

The walls are 1.5-inch Eastern White Cedar staves, lighter in tone and tighter in grain than darker cedar species, naturally moisture and insect resistant, and possessed of the aromatic quality that distinguishes a cedar sauna interior from any substitute. The bands that hold the barrel together are marine-grade aluminum with stainless steel bolts -- not standard steel, not galvanized, but marine-grade aluminum chosen for outdoor environments where corrosion resistance over the life of the installation matters. The stainless steel hardware throughout completes a hardware package designed for long-term outdoor exposure without maintenance concerns.

 

The front wall assembly includes a 5mm bronze tempered glass door with a cedar frame, pre-hung for installation straight from the crate. The door opens onto a built-in front porch with benches that functions both as a dedicated space to cool down between sessions and as a protective overhang for the door opening. Inside, the solid Eastern White Cedar benches are wide enough to sit or recline, built on a flat cedar floor with a complete sauna vent kit including stainless steel grilles and a cedar vent cover. The barrel sits on solid cedar cradles -- the structural base that levels the sauna on whatever surface you install it on, whether concrete, deck, patio stone, or crushed gravel.

 

The CTC2245E is configured for electric heat. A 6kW heater is selected at time of order from Leisurecraft's full lineup of compatible options. All final electrical connections must be completed by a certified electrician on a 240V, 30 to 50 amp circuit depending on the heater selected. The roof is available in two configurations at time of order: a premium asphalt shingle roof or a black metal roof -- both are structural choices that provide permanent weather protection as part of the kit, not covers or accessories. The optional halfmoon windows add two rear-wall windows that let light into the back of the barrel interior for a more open feel during sessions.

Marine-grade aluminum bands must be inspected and tightened periodically as the cedar expands and contracts with seasonal temperature and humidity changes. All electrical connections for the heater must be completed by a certified electrician and must comply with local codes. Required circuit is 240V, 30 to 50 amp depending on the heater model selected. Liftgate is not available for crates over 92 inches -- customer is responsible for unloading and moving to the installation site.
