Description

The Angelus is a GFRC concrete fire pit built around one of the most direct design propositions in The Outdoor Plus lineup: a tapered rectangular vessel, wide open flame channel, and a profile that is simultaneously massive in presence and clean in its geometry. At 60 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 24 inches tall, it is sized to command a seating arrangement rather than complement one. The tapered form -- wider at the top than at the base -- gives the Angelus a planted, grounded quality that reads as more substantial than its footprint, and the open-top pan format means the flame is fully visible from all sides and at eye level when seated around it.

 

The shell is GFRC -- glass-fiber reinforced concrete -- a material chosen specifically for this application because it offers the density and finish quality of poured concrete at a fraction of the weight, with far greater resistance to cracking under thermal cycling than standard concrete mixes. The color is integral, dyed throughout the thickness of the shell rather than applied as a surface coat, which means it cannot chip, peel, or fade off the exterior over time. The Outdoor Plus offers the Angelus in three finish families. The smooth finish collection includes Ash, Chestnut, Gray, Limestone, Natural Gray, and Vanilla -- the classic architectural concrete palette, each with the matte, fine-texture quality of a high-grade architectural pour. The metallic finish collection -- Bronze, Copper, Pearl, Silver, and Slate -- gives the GFRC surface a sheen that responds to firelight differently than a flat matte, with a depth that shifts depending on the angle and light conditions. The rustic and textured finish collection includes Rustic Coffee, Rustic Gray, Rustic White, and Rustic Moss Stone -- open-texture finishes that read as more organic and less polished than the smooth options. Because the Angelus is handmade, color and texture variation between pieces is inherent to the process; The Outdoor Plus recommends requesting physical finish samples before selecting a color. Photos may not precisely match the selected finish.

 

The pan and burner are both 304 stainless steel with a standard 2-inch pan depth. The pan includes drain holes for water management. The burner is certified to ANSI Z21.97-2017 / CSA 2.41-2017 and outputs 65,000 BTU/hr. Two SKU configurations are available from the manufacturer: the match-lit unit (OPT-AGLGF60) and the plug-and-play electronic ignition kit (OPT-AGLGF60EKIT). Additional ignition configurations -- match-lit with flame sense, flame sense with spark, and low-voltage electronic ignition -- are also available. The unit ships for liquid propane; natural gas is available as a fuel selection at time of order. Both fuel types are supported on all ignition configurations.

 

All gas line work must be performed by a licensed gas professional. Do not operate the unit with a cover on -- doing so voids the warranty. If a cover is used when the fire feature is not in use, it must be a breathable material; plastic or non-breathable covers may stick to the GFRC surface.

IGNITION TYPES EXPLAINED:

Two ignition configurations are offered under standard SKUs, with three additional options available for the Angelus.

 

The match-lit configuration (OPT-AGLGF60) is the base unit. A key valve controls gas flow and the flame is lit manually at the burner with a match or lighter. No electricity required. It is the simplest installation and the configuration with no electrical dependencies.

 

The plug-and-play electronic ignition kit (OPT-AGLGF60EKIT, CSA certified) is The Outdoor Plus's 110V turnkey electronic option. A plug-and-play electronic valve and pilot igniter replace the manual lighting step -- the flame ignites electronically via the ignition system. This configuration plugs into a standard outdoor GFCI outlet and requires no low-voltage transformer or home automation wiring. The electronic valve and pilot igniter are included in the kit.

 

The match-lit with flame sense configuration (LC certified) adds a flame-sensing safety function to the standard match-lit system. The burner is still lit manually, but if the flame extinguishes unexpectedly, the flame sense component shuts off gas flow automatically.

 

The flame sense with spark ignition configuration adds auto-spark ignition to the flame sense shutoff -- no match or lighter is needed to light the burner. If the burner fails to light or the flame is extinguished, gas flow shuts off automatically.

 

The low-voltage electronic ignition configuration (CSA certified) operates on 12V DC and is designed for integration with home automation systems, wall switches, timers, and pool or spa controllers. All low-voltage wiring must be connected by a licensed electrician. This is the configuration for any installation where the Angelus will be controlled as part of a broader outdoor electrical or automation system.
