Description

The Atlantic is one of The Outdoor Plus's signature rectangular fire pit designs -- a tapered, trough-style vessel with a wide open flame channel and a silhouette that reads as clean and architectural from any angle. It is sized to function as the anchor of an outdoor seating arrangement, available in five lengths -- 48, 60, 72, 84, and 96 inches -- and two heights -- 18 and 24 inches -- giving you ten base configurations before material and ignition are even factored in. That range of sizes means the Atlantic can scale with the space it goes into, from a more intimate four-person seating group at 48 inches to the full-width presence of a 96-inch vessel at the center of a larger terrace or pool deck.

The Metal Collection offers four material finishes: hammered copper, powder-coated steel, stainless steel, and Corten steel. Each is a distinct material choice, not just a color variation. Hammered copper develops a natural living patina over time -- the surface evolves with exposure, and no two pieces age identically. It is the most expressive finish in the collection and the one that reads warmest in direct firelight. Powder-coated steel is the most color-flexible option, available in eleven finishes: Black, White, Silver Vein, Java, Gray, Pewter, Copper Vein, Military Green, Mist, Soft White, and Onyx Black. Stainless steel offers a more industrial, refined surface character. Corten steel weathers to its signature amber-brown oxide layer over time; the rust-like surface is a deliberate finish that stabilizes and does not continue to degrade with proper installation. The Outdoor Plus notes that handmade pieces may vary in color and texture, and that photos may not precisely match the selected finish -- physical samples are recommended before finalizing a material selection.

The pan and burner are both 304 stainless steel, and the burner is certified to ANSI Z21.97-2017 / CSA 2.41-2017. Every Atlantic ships configured for liquid propane and includes a natural gas conversion kit with instructions, so either fuel type is available out of the box -- no additional conversion hardware needs to be ordered. The burner outputs 65,000 BTU/hr across all sizes. Five ignition configurations are available: match-lit, plug-and-play electronic ignition (CSA certified), match-lit with flame sense (LC certified), flame sense with spark ignition, and low-voltage electronic ignition (CSA certified). Each ignition type is supported by its own installation manual.

All gas line work must be performed by a licensed gas professional. Do not operate the unit with a cover on -- doing so voids the warranty. If a cover is used when the fire feature is not in use, it must be a breathable material; plastic or non-breathable covers may stick to the surface and damage the finish.

IGNITION TYPES EXPLAINED:
Five ignition configurations are available for The Atlantic Metal Collection, across both liquid propane and natural gas.

 

The match-lit configuration is the baseline -- a key valve controls gas flow and the flame is lit manually at the burner with a match or lighter. No electricity, no transformer, and no home automation integration required. It is the simplest installation and the most reliable in terms of eliminating potential electrical failure points.

 

The plug-and-play electronic ignition (CSA certified) is The Outdoor Plus's turnkey electronic option for residential installations -- the ignition system plugs into a standard outdoor GFCI outlet and operates via electronic ignition. No low-voltage wiring or transformer is required.

 

The match-lit with flame sense ignition (LC certified) adds a flame-sensing safety function to the standard match-lit system. If the flame extinguishes unexpectedly, the flame sense shuts off gas flow automatically. It is lit manually and requires no electricity for the ignition itself, but the flame sense component requires a power source.

 

The flame sense with spark ignition combines automatic spark ignition -- no manual match or lighter required -- with the flame sense safety shutoff. If the burner fails to light or the flame extinguishes, the system shuts off gas flow automatically.

 

The low-voltage electronic ignition (CSA certified) is the configuration for integration with home automation systems, wall timers, and pool or spa controllers. It operates on low-voltage (12V DC) and must be connected to an appropriate transformer by a licensed electrician. This is the configuration recommended for any installation where the fire feature will be controlled remotely or as part of a broader outdoor electrical system.
